Remote Healthcare
Having enough money to travel to hospital is the single biggest reason preventing people from rural Malawian communities accessing the care and medicines they need.
Delayed treatment means poorer health outcomes.
Ulemu.com provides a weekly motorised ambulance boat and motorbike taxi service to help people from Chisi Island access quality healthcare in Zomba Central Hospital and Queens’ Hospital in Blantyre. This service has been especially important for women who are complications while giving birth on Chisi Island. See BBC Africa video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/GMiTuJLLBo4
We also provide life-saving treatment to people suffering from malaria at Ulemu.com’s office on Chisi Island. Treatment at our office prevents sick people having to walk 14 km to the closest clinic on the far side of the island.
